Topic: Taking Everything to God in Prayer & Living with Thanksgiving (Part 2)
Last week, we began our discussion on “How to Let the Peace of God Rule” by looking at the first part of Philippians 4:6–7.
We talked about how anxiety has become a common experience—feeling worry, nervousness, or unease about things that often haven’t even happened yet. It’s a future-focused state that can affect us mentally, emotionally, and even physically.
But even in the midst of anxiety, God gives us a clear instruction and promise: that His peace is available to us.
This week, we are focusing on the second part of that same scripture—prayer and thanksgiving—and how these two keys unlock the peace of God in our daily lives.
1. The Power of Prayer: God Hears You
Before anything else, we must understand this truth:
When you pray, God hears you.
📖 “And this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.” — 1 John 5:14
We cannot approach prayer doubting. Faith is the foundation.
Set your heart to believe that God hears you
If you struggle with belief, ask Him to help you believe
📖 “Lord, I believe; help my unbelief.” — Mark 9:24
God desires that we believe Him. Prayer is not a ritual—it is relationship.
2. When You Pray, Leave It with God
Prayer is not just about speaking—it’s about releasing.
Many times, we pray… but then:
We pick the situation right back up
We replay it in our minds
We keep talking about it
But true surrender means leaving it at His feet.
📖 “Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself… bringing into captivity every thought…” — 2 Corinthians 10:5
What does this look like practically?
Stop rehearsing the problem
Stop rehashing it with others
When the thought comes back—cast it down
This is where discipline meets faith.
3. Forgiveness: A Key to Release
If your situation involves hurt or offense, forgiveness is not optional—it’s necessary.
Unforgiveness keeps you tied to the situation
Forgiveness frees you to move forward
Forgiveness is not saying what happened was okay—
It’s choosing not to stay bound to it.
4. God Responds to Those Who Call on Him
📖 “This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles.” — Psalm 34:6
Notice—the man is not named.
Why?
Because this promise is not limited to a specific person.
It is for anyone who sincerely calls on God.
God is not selective—He is responsive to faith.
5. Thanksgiving: The Missing Key
Now let’s talk about thanksgiving.
Why thank God before we see the answer?
Because:
God already knows what you’re facing
“Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee…” — Jeremiah 1:5
“You know my sitting down and my rising up…” — Psalm 139:2
God is not trying to figure it out—He already knows.
And more than that:
Jesus already paid for it
Deliverance has already been provided
6. Thank God Before You See It
We don’t wait to see the outcome to give thanks.
We thank Him because we trust His Word.
📖 “Call unto Me, and I will answer thee…” — Jeremiah 33:3
📖 “So shall My word be… it shall not return unto Me void…” — Isaiah 55:11
Thanksgiving is a declaration:
“God, I trust You—even before I see it.”
Reflection Questions
Take a moment to reflect:
Do I truly believe that God hears me when I pray?
Am I leaving my concerns with God—or picking them back up?
Is there any area where I need to forgive?
Am I thanking God in advance, or only after I see results?
Closing Thought
What do you really have to lose by trusting God?
Nothing.
But you have everything to gain:
Peace
Freedom
Confidence in Him
When we take everything to God in prayer and live with thanksgiving, we position ourselves to walk in the peace that He has already promised.
